During the Trojan War, Memnon, son of Eos, came to the help of the Trojans.

When he had to confront Achilles, their respective mothers, Eos and Thetis came to plead their sons' cause before Zeus.

Memnon fell and Eos asked Zeus to grant him a special honour. Zeus accepted and offered Memnon immortality.
