Projects
 
Memnon is currently involved in the digitization of more than 500.000 hours of sound and video archives and is negotiating projects concerning several hundred thousands of hours, in Europe as well as in Africa.

Digitization

Following an invitation to tender, Memnon has been chosen as technical provider by the Archives of the Aude Department (France) for the digitization of their magnetic tapes. 

The Archives of Val-de-Marne (France): following an invitation to tender, Memnon was selected in order to protect the sound collections of the Val-de-Marne departmental archives. These collections are made of magnetic tapes, audio cassettes and records.

Le Musée Dauphinois (France) : Memnon has digitised thousands of ethnological audio archives from the Musée Dauphinois. These collections are made of magnetic tapes and audio cassettes.

Le Musée d'Ethnographie de Genève (MEG) (Switzerland) : Memnon was selected to digitize the sound collection of the MEG. This collection is made of LP records (33rpm / 45rpm).

La Bibliothèque Nationale de France (National Library of France) :
Memnon has digitised and documented thousands of audio cassettes in the legal deposit of this library.

Memnon is carrying out the digitization of more than 200 000 audio CD in the legal deposit of this library. 

Le Concours Musical International Reine Elisabeth de Belgique (Belgium) (The Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium) (Brussels): Memnon is responsible for transferring  the recordings from the competition sessions and the winners’ concerts, which have been made by RTBF and VRT (Belgium’s national television and radio companies) or private companies since 1951 to digital media. These archives offer an extensive range: disks with 78 tracks cut directly, magnetic tapes in various formats, digital DAT tapes and CDs. This project has saved a priceless heritage and rediscovered exceptional musicians at the dawn of their careers. 

After an international call for tenders, Memnon won a contract with DR (Danish Radio/TV) to digitize over 350 000 hours on DAT over 3 years. Memnon believes that this tender is the largest audiovisual digitization tender published in recent years in Europe . 

L’Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (The National Audiovisual Institute, France)
In March 2005, Memnon was commissioned to digitise several thousand hours of audio cassettes  with this internationally-renowned institute. The project involves digitising and indexing (identification of content and management of the descriptive data) their comprehensive collection of recordings.

Le Collège de France (France) : Memnon has digitised Michel Foucault's courses on audio cassettes.

The Library of Catalonia (Spain): after having participated to the Library of Catalonia invitation to tender, Memnon was selected as technical provider for the digitization of DAT’s and magnetic tapes belonging to this institution.

Following an invitation to tender, Memnon was chosen by the Paris Musical Media Library (France) as technical provider for the digitization and the documentation of the 4000 78 rpm records belonging to this institution. This project emphasizes the metadata, the open formats, the interoperability and the broadcasting of the digitized files. 

Reader’s Digest (Belgium)
Digitising the musical archives of the Reader’s Digest has been an ongoing project for the last four years. Since 2005, Memnon has also provided computerised storage of these archives.

Radio Suisse Romande (Switzerland) : after having participated to the Radio Suisse Romande invitation to tender, Memnon was selected as technical provider for the digitization of 6000 magnetic tapes belonging to this institution.

Centre National Audiovisuel (Luxemburg) : Memnon, in partnership with BCE, is digitizing 13 000 magnetic tapes in 3 years time.

Historical Archives of the European Union (Italy) : Memnon preserves the archives of this institution (mini-disc and audio-cassettes). The HAEU preserves and makes available to the public the documents coming from the European Institutions as well as those of pro-European movements and personalities.

Digitization and indexation

The Bournemouth University (UK):  Memnon is carrying out the digitization of 3500 magnetic tapes of two radio news archives of the 1970s and 1980s. In addition to this work of digitization, this project emphasizes segmentation and documentation of the digitized sources and the management of metadata created by the digitization.

British Library (UK)                       
The British Library has one of the richest sound archives in the world. This major institution has entrusted Memnon with digitising, restoring and indexing of 4,000 hours of sound archives, with a view to archiving them and making them available to the scientific community on the internet. This large-scale project has allowed Memnon to demonstrate its skill in handling sound archives and in processing IT information.

Cité de la Musique (France): within the framework of the “chantiers numériques” (digital workshops) launched by the French Ministry of Culture, Memnon washas been chosen  as technical provider by the cCite de la Musique for the digitization  and the data processing of the sound documents originated bycoming from  various French orchestras.

European Parliament (Luxembourg) 
Memnon’s work with the European Parliament involves digitising several thousand hours of audio-cassette recordings from their commissions. Memnon digitises and encodes this data before transferring it to DVD-R and hard disks.

Following a call for bidders, Memnon has been chosen as technical provider by various French institutions (Ircam - CDMC - EIC – Conservatory of Paris - Cité de la Musique)  involved in the creation of a portal about contemporary music.
